Children’s Book Review: PT Runs Free by Jason Kraus and Connor DeHaan

I have always been a reader and I thank my parents for that. My mom and dad would always read to me when I was a kid and now that I have a niece and nephew I love to share new books with them, too. PT Runs Free is an inspiring story of a real-life three-legged dog who teaches the importance of never giving up.

PT Runs Free is a picture book based on the true story of PT the rescue dog, written by Jason Kraus and illustrated by Connor DeHaan. PT overcomes a neglectful family, living in a shelter, and even losing a leg.

The real PT was found injured on the side of the road in Miami, Florida and is now living an amazing life as a therapy dog. His story shows children how he regained his ability to run free with only three legs while educating and inspiring children in schools and community centers along the way. The book also teaches kids about empathy and the importance of adopting dogs from shelters, since so many are waiting to find their forever homes.

My nephew, “O,” loved PT Runs Free! As most children do, he loves dogs and all animals. The colorful illustrations and inspiring story were a huge hit. I loved that the story was uplifting for kids and also teaches them the importance of helping others and adopting from shelters.

You can purchase PT Runs Free at most bookstores, including online at Barnes and Noble and Bookshop.org

Bottom Line: I think that PT Runs Free is a great book that kids of all ages will enjoy! The story has everything: a cute animal, a motivating tale, and great lessons.
