Spring 2023 FabFitFun Review

I’ve been an annual subscriber to FabFitFun since summer 2022, making this the last box in my billing cycle for the year. I ended up getting a lot of add-on items, so I guess I went out with a bang!

*Disclaimer: This box was purchased by See, Shop, Love!

FabFitFun recently updated their prices. I decided not to renew my Annual subscription after this box because I didn’t want to pay more for it and I have way too many products to get through as it is, so this will be my last review of their box for a while.

There are two subscription tiers: Annual and Seasonal. Seasonal boxes are billed every three months at $59.99 per month and Annual subscriptions are $219.99 once a year (four boxes total). Taxes are included on a state-by-state basis (I paid them for New York). Shipping is free to the contiguous U.S.

Annual subscribers get first dibs, and to me, it’s really the only way you’ll get your money’s worth with this subscription. A lot of the popular items sell out before Seasonal members are even able to pick their boxes, so if you have the money, subscribing Annually is the best way to go.

As I said earlier, I added a bunch of extra products to my box this quarter, some by mistake (more on that later!). All Annual subscribers get to choose an item for all six categories; Seasonal subscribers are able to choose items from the first four categories and the other two are selected by FabFitFun.

FabFitFun also has Add-Ons, Box Boosts, and reFills that you can add to your box, which are really tempting for me because I already paid for the box, so when the new quarter rolled around, I felt like I wasn’t spending as much to get the extras (bad logic, I know, 😂).

I chose three Add-On items for my Spring box and received two reFills. I signed up for the reFill last quarter and forgot to cancel it for this box, which was my mistake. So these items are extras that I purchased at discounted prices in addition to the standard six categories.

One of the full-sized items that was available this box was a Commodity Fragrance “Gold” perfume and I was so bummed that I wasn’t able to get one. I logged in for Annual choice selection two hours after it went live and they were all already snatched up! I normally log in right away but forgot this time around, so it just goes to show how quickly some items can become sold out.

That being said, I was able to get the Commodity Scent Space: Expressive sample kit as an Add-On ($15). I love Commodity Fragrance and my favorite is Milk. I was able to try all of their original perfumes and actually realized that Gold smelled nice but had weak sillage and intensity, so I wasn’t too upset that I didn’t get a full-sized after it only lasted 15 or so minutes on my skin.

I also purchased a Skylar Perfume Papaya Paradise Rollerball ($14) and GlamGlow Supersmooth Acne Clearing Mask to Scrub ($13). The GlamGlow was technically a Box Boost (different category than Add-On), but works the same way. I previously reviewed Skylar Scent Club (read that here) and said I hadn’t found a Skylar perfume I liked, but turns out, I really liked the Papaya Paradise one! It’s very sweet and still didn’t last very long on my skin, but I enjoyed the bright fruity scent. The GlamGlow mask/scrub is great for my oily skin and I’m glad I got it at such a steep discount (original retail is $34).

Now, onto the actual box items!

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Daily Foaming Face Wash: I’m a big fan of the ExfoliKate scrub and needed a new face wash so I figured I’d give this a try. To be honest, the selections were not great this quarter, so most of the items I ended up picking were mostly for “eh, I guess I like this best.”

Amika: Dream Routine Overnight Hydration Treatment: I’ve been all about hydrating hair products lately and I liked that this one can be used on wet or dry hair. It’s an overnight mask with hyaluronic acid, polyglutamic acid, bio-fermented coconut water, blue/green algae, and sea buckthorn.

Brave Body Hydrating Mineral Melt: Okay so I messed up while photographing this box, this was not a choice item but an other Add-On (for $5). Hero Cosmetics products usually work pretty well for me, so I chose this moisturizer for the low price and because it has Shea butter, bakuchiol, and glycolic acid.

Fenty Skin Flash Nap Instant Revival Priming Eye Gel-Cream and Eye Massage Tool: I chose this mostly because I needed a new eye cream but also because I liked that it came with a little applicator tool. It has green tea and Persian silk tree to hydrate and smooth undereye skin. The tool feels so nice and cooling, especially after being in my skincare fridge.

Makesy Diffuser Kit: This DIY kit has scents of cashmere and vanilla that you mix yourself. I like the reusable vessel and chose it because I love anything vanilla-scented.

Grace and Stella Hot + Cool Gel Bead Mask: I love a sleep mask and I also have frequent headaches, so I chose this mask because I knew I’d get a lot of use out of it. I love having a cooling mask on my eyes during a migraine/headache. Unfortunately, the band on this is just a little small and is tighter around my head than I’d prefer. I’m not sure if I just have a big head circumference, but if the strap was just slightly longer it would be more comfortable.

Summer & Rose Outdoor Roundie: I remember that this was in the sixth choice category and I wasn’t really interested in any of the items. I don’t go to the beach often, but when I do, this will be nice to have as a place to sit on. As the name suggests, it’s circular in shape instead of the standard rectangular towel. I suppose it can also be used anywhere outdoors, like for a picnic or something.

The reFills items are the IGK Hair Legendary Hair Shampoo and Conditioner. I love this line from IGK and it works wonders for my dandruff. I didn’t mean to get a refill, though, because I still have two other sets to go through! I will use this though, it just might be a while.

Bottom Line: This was my least favorite FabFitFun box of my year of boxes because the product selection wasn’t great. There weren’t any items that I was really excited about, but overall I found some things that I will put to good use.
