I Bought the Plufl Human-Sized Dog Bed, Should You?

I love anything cozy. I think I was into the Danish idea of hygge before I even knew what it was. I’m always purchasing fluffy blankets, candles, and anything that will enhance my naps and sleep. When I heard about the Plufl Human Dog Bed, I was intrigued and decided to take the plunge and purchase it!

A human-sized dog bed? Yeah, I know. It sounds (and probably looks) absolutely ridiculous. It was created to be “the most comfortable sleeping product on the market” and was featured on Shark Tank.

The Plufl is approximately 68 inches long and 33 inches wide and needs to be assembled by you. I received mine when I was in the middle of a pretty bad sinus infection, and while I was physically drained, I powered through to put this together because I desperately wanted to sleep my sinus infection away inside of it!

The box contained the plush cover (available in gray and beige, I chose gray), two bolster pillows, and the bottom pad. The pillows and pad were, of course, shrink-wrapped. The instructions said to let them air out for 24 to 72 hours, but I did not have the patience for that, and after about three hours they seemed fluffy enough so I got to work putting it all together.

I definitely recommend having someone help you do this! It wasn’t impossible to put together by myself, but it wasn’t the easiest. The hardest part was getting the bolsters along the sides to fit equally, and then pulling the bottom pad all the way through.

The covering is so soft and reminds me of some of the faux fur blankets I have from West Elm. As you can see in the second photo, there are handles on either end to help you transport/store the Plufl. It supposedly folds in half for storage, but I haven’t tried to store mine. There is also a pocket on the side you can put your phone, etc in.

And here it is! It is exactly what it says it is — a human-sized dog bed. “Human-sized” is generous, as I’m 5’3 and I can fit inside this comfortably, but if I lie down supine my legs and feet hang over the end. I don’t think this would be very comfortable for anyone taller than 5’5 or so.

To be honest, the first time I lied down in it I thought, “okay, this is comfortable, but nothing special.” Then I fell asleep in it and had the best nap! Even better: I woke up with zero back pain, which hasn’t happened since I don’t even remember how long.

The Plufl is currently on top of my bed and I’ve been sleeping in it every night. I absolutely love it; my favorite part is the enclosed feeling I get from lying in it. I like to feel surrounded when I’m sleeping, not sure why, but it just makes me feel more relaxed and secure and I’m able to fall asleep faster. The bolsters are also very comfortable and I use them instead of putting a regular pillow inside of the bed.

My small cat also loves the Plufl! If you have a smaller animal you could likely curl up with your pet inside of the bed. I put the pillow (standard size) inside for size comparison.

Other things to note: the Plufl cover is machine-washable, but you have to disassemble the entire thing to get the cover off. I’m obviously going to have to wash this since I’m sleeping in it regularly, but I’m not looking forward to having to put all of the bolsters and mats back inside.

Also, the Plufl website has a 30-day money back guarantee on opened merchandise, but I read the fine print and you’ll be charged a 20 percent restocking fee and are also responsible for return shipping. The box weighed at least 15 pounds, so that’s going to be an expensive shipment back. You can get a full refund minus the cost of shipping (shipping is free to the U.S.) for an unopened Plufl.

Bottom Line: Does anyone really need a Plufl? No. It’s an expensive purchase and a total luxury want, not need. That being said, I don’t regret my purchase at all. It’s so comfortable and cozy and the quality of sleep I’ve gotten from it is well worth the price to me!
