Skylar Scent Club Review – Winter Spirit

I’ve been really into trying new perfumes lately and have seen and heard a lot about Skylar. They create clean, hypoallergenic fine fragrances that are also vegan and cruelty-free. They have a subscription service called the Skylar Scent Club and I decided to give it a try.

*Disclaimer: This box was purchased by See, Shop, Love!

Skylar Scent Club allows you to choose a rollerball each month at a discounted price with exclusive member perks. They feature limited edition fragrances with a new scent each month.

The subscription costs $20 per month and includes a monthly rollerball ($30 value) with discounted shipping of $4.95 per box (shipping is free on boxes over $50). You can add as many rollerballs as you like to your box for an additional $20 each. There is also a 20 percent discount of all products at any time for members. You can also skip a month or cancel at any time through your account page.

This was my first Skylar Scent Club box but not my first experience with Skylar. I had previously received their Fall Cashmere scent through Scentbird and had a sample of Vanilla Sky from a Sephora perfume sampler. To be completely honest, I didn’t enjoy either scent. They smelled, to be blunt, cheap to me. That being said, I wanted to give Skylar another try since maybe I just struck out with two fragrances that weren’t my preference.

I chose Winter Spirit as my rollerball for the month. I love warm scents, and this one has the following notes:

Top notes: Bergamot, Apricot Nectar, Roasted Almond
Middle notes: Aged Rum, Violet Petal, Oakwood Chip
Base notes: Sandalwood, Vanilla Bean, Warm Amber

I love bergamot and the aged rum, vanilla bean, and warm amber sounded like they would combine for the perfect scent for me. Unfortunately, I didn’t like this perfume, either. It has zero chocolate notes but it smells like cheap chocolate to me. This is the third Skylar perfume in a row that made me feel like I could have purchased it at Walmart. Nothing against Walmart perfumes, I just think that for the price point they do not smell as sophisticated as they should (a full-sized bottle retails for $90!). I think I could find much more complex and refined perfumes for that price, or possibly even lower.

I really wanted to like Skylar, but seems like three strikes and they’re out. Their perfumes just aren’t for me, but I think that anyone who is interested in them should still give them a try. The Scent Club is a great way to try a limited edition scent for only $20. They also are Leaping Bunny and PETA certified as cruelty free, are safe for sensitive skin, and donate to different charities each month.

Bottom Line: I cancelled my Skylar Scent Club membership after one rollerball because it was my third scent from Skylar that I didn’t enjoy. I wish that I liked them and maybe I’ll try a different scent in the future — maybe there is one out there that’s perfect for me!
